Harriet Frederick has lived in Huntsville for the past 34 years. She believes the recipe for a thriving community includes strong elected leaders, businesses, school systems, and volunteers.
Calling on her passion and determination developed as a one of the first Title IX scholarship athletes at the University of Alabama in track and field, gymnastics and cheerleading, Harriet channeled this energy into efforts to improve her community. She has become involved in numerous volunteer and local organizations such as: Junior League, AYSO, American Cancer Society, Carillon Club, Therapy Partners, Girls Inc., and dearest to her — the Huntsville City Schools PTA.
As a supporter of the PTA, and various school activities, she worked tirelessly (and successfully with record breaking fundraising numbers!) for 16 years to improve what our city offers students. Harriet experienced firsthand the importance of HEALS through her work in the public school system. Children cannot learn if they have a toothache, poor vision, or are physically or mentally ill. HEALS provides these students with many of the fundamental needs to excel in education and life, in a setting that is not overly cumbersome logistically to single or working parents.
Harriet has been an Alabama resident all her life. She is married to Paul Frederick, an attorney at Maynard Cooper and Gale PC. She and Paul both attended the University of Alabama. Her greatest assets are her three grown children: Adam, John, and Victoria along with her granddaughter. Adam is an ophthalmologist and corneal surgeon in Huntsville at The Eye Center; John is a facial plastic surgeon in Los Angeles working with Paul Nassif; Victoria works for Optimist Inc, a creative agency based in Los Angeles.
